For remote databases, you need an internet connection to access your data. However, you can work with local SQLite databases stored on your device without any network connection.
Connections
Which databases does LunoDB Mobile support?
LunoDB Mobile supports MySQL (5.7+), PostgreSQL (10+), MariaDB (10.0+), SQL Server (2017+, including Azure SQL), MongoDB (4.4+), SQLite, and Turso (libSQL).
How do I connect to my database?
Open LunoDB Mobile, tap “Add Connection”, select your database type, and enter your connection details (host, port, username, password). For MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, and MongoDB, LunoDB Cloud makes the connection for you. Turso and SQLite connect directly. You can also import connections from LunoDB desktop using QR codes.
What is LunoDB Cloud?
LunoDB Cloud is our secure connection gateway for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, and MongoDB on mobile. Phones can’t open these database connections directly, so the app talks to LunoDB Cloud over HTTPS and LunoDB Cloud connects to your database. Your saved connections live on your device; LunoDB Cloud only holds your connection details, encrypted, for the length of a 30-minute session.
How LunoDB Cloud worksCan I connect to databases behind firewalls?
Yes, with an SSH tunnel for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, and MongoDB. Add your SSH server details to the connection and LunoDB Cloud connects through it to reach your database. SQL Server can’t use an SSH tunnel on mobile. Without SSH, your database needs to accept connections from the internet, and localhost or private network addresses are blocked for security.
Can I connect to cloud databases like AWS RDS?
Absolutely! LunoDB Mobile works with all major cloud database providers including AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Azure Database, DigitalOcean Managed Databases, and more. Just enter your connection details and you’re ready to go.
How do I import connections from desktop?
In LunoDB desktop, go to Settings → Backup → Export to LunoDB Mobile and click “Generate QR Code”. Then in LunoDB Mobile, tap “Import from Desktop” on the empty Connections screen, or go to Settings → Connection → Scan QR Code at any time, and scan the code. Your connections, SSH settings, tags, and saved graphs are transferred. Codes expire after 15 minutes.
Features
What can I do with LunoDB Mobile?
You can browse tables and data, write SQL in an editor with autocomplete (or let AI write it), edit data inline with undo, filter and sort results, export data to CSV/JSON/SQL, back up and restore whole databases, create and drop databases and tables, build bar, line, pie, and area charts, pin charts as home screen widgets, see ER diagrams, and search your query history. On iPad you get keyboard shortcuts and a command palette. The Dashboard tab shows your recent query activity, most-used connections, and saved charts at a glance. It’s perfect for quick database tasks on the go.
How does AI SQL generation work?
Simply describe what you want in plain English, like “show me orders from last week” or “find users without email verification”. The AI understands your database schema and writes the SQL. You can review and change the query, then tap Run when you’re ready.
Which AI providers are supported?
LunoDB Mobile supports Apple Intelligence for on-device AI (private, free, and no API key — needs iOS 26 or later on an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence), plus Anthropic (Claude Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, Haiku 5.5), OpenAI (GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Sol and Luna), Google (Gemini 3.8, 3.7, and 3.6 Flash), and xAI (Grok 4.7, 4.6, and 4.5) when you bring your own API key.
Can I edit data directly in the app?
Yes! Tap any cell to edit it. LunoDB validates your changes and shows you what will be modified before saving. Primary key columns are protected from accidental changes.
What export formats are available?
You can export query results and table data to CSV (for spreadsheets), JSON (for APIs and applications), or SQL INSERT statements (for backups and migrations).
Does mobile have all desktop features?
Mobile includes most core features, but some advanced features have limitations. For example, SSH tunneling is handled by LunoDB Cloud rather than direct tunnels, large file imports are limited, and server admin commands like GRANT and KILL are only available on desktop.

Is my data secure?
Yes. Your saved connections live on your device. When you connect, LunoDB Cloud keeps your connection details encrypted for a 30-minute session and then discards them. Traffic between the app and LunoDB Cloud is encrypted with HTTPS, and your queries and results are never logged or stored. You can also turn on Face ID or Touch ID to lock the app; while app lock is on, a privacy screen hides your data in the app switcher. Connection backups can be protected with a password and AES-256 encryption.
Where are my credentials stored?
Your saved connections are stored in the app’s private storage on your device. They only leave your device when you connect: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, and MongoDB details go to LunoDB Cloud over HTTPS, and Turso tokens go straight to Turso.
How does LunoDB Cloud protect my connections?
Traffic between your device and LunoDB Cloud is encrypted with HTTPS. Your connection details are encrypted while a session is open and expire after 30 minutes. We don’t log your queries or store your results, and localhost and private network addresses are blocked. For extra control, you can self-host your own proxy.
Self-host your own proxyIs my AI data private?
When writing queries or filters, we only send your database schema (table names, column names, types) and your question to the AI provider. If you use AI Data Insights on a table, it also sends a short summary of that table, including the first 5 rows. Everything goes straight from your device to your chosen provider, whose privacy policy applies.
Can LunoDB employees see my data?
No. Your queries and results pass through LunoDB Cloud over HTTPS and are never logged or stored on our servers. Turso and SQLite connections don’t use LunoDB Cloud at all.
Desktop integration
How do I sync connections from desktop?
In LunoDB desktop, go to Settings → Backup → Export to LunoDB Mobile and click “Generate QR Code”, then scan it with LunoDB Mobile. Your connection details transfer instantly. This is the easiest way to get started if you already use LunoDB desktop.
Step-by-step guideDo desktop and mobile share the same connections?
They share connection details via QR sync, but changes made on one device don’t automatically appear on the other. If you update a connection on desktop, you’ll need to re-sync via QR code. You can also move connections either way with a password-protected backup file (.lunobackup), which both apps can restore.
What’s different between desktop and mobile?
Desktop connects to your databases directly, while mobile uses LunoDB Cloud for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, SQL Server, and MongoDB (Turso and SQLite connect directly). Desktop has no file size limits for imports, while mobile has limitations. Desktop supports SSH tunneling directly, while mobile achieves the same via LunoDB Cloud.

Use desktop for heavy database work, large imports, and extended sessions. Use mobile for quick checks, simple queries, viewing data on the go, and when you’re away from your computer. Many users use both!
Troubleshooting
Why can’t I connect to my database?
Common issues: 1) Check your credentials are correct. 2) Ensure your database server allows remote connections. 3) Check if a firewall is blocking connections. 4) Verify the host and port are correct. 5) Make sure your database server is running. Try connecting from LunoDB desktop first to verify your credentials.
My connection keeps timing out
This usually means the database server is unreachable. Check your internet connection, verify the server is running, and ensure no firewall is blocking the connection. If your database is behind a firewall, connect through an SSH tunnel or ask your IT team to allow connections from LunoDB Cloud.
AI features aren’t working
Make sure you’ve entered a valid API key in settings. Check that you have sufficient credits/quota with your AI provider. Ensure you have an active internet connection. Try a simple query like “show all tables” to test.
The app is running slowly
Large result sets can slow down the app. Try adding filters to reduce the amount of data, or use LIMIT clauses in your queries. Close other apps to free up memory. If the problem persists, try restarting the app.
How do I report a bug?
Go to Settings > Contact in the app, or email [email protected]. Include details about what happened, what you expected, and your device/OS version. Screenshots are helpful!
